Stuck on Glue

I referred to Participation as being an important part of the online ecosystem last year and those thoughts still resonate with me almost a year later.

I have been playing around with the latest iteration of Glue from Adaptive Blue which is a portfolio company of my employer Union Square Ventures. The new version allows a small but helpful bar to appear at the bottom of pages that sync. up with your tastes and what is popular.

I Love Glue!

With disclaimers and descriptions out of the way I can jump into the app itself. It is a Firefox add-on which makes it OS agnostic and easy to get going on just about any computer. With Facebook and Twitter integration it also lowers the hurdle of setting up an account.

I am obviously a big fan of social networks that are there when you need them and not when you don’t and Glue is exactly that. It shows you what your friends in the network have recently looked at, as well as others that have similar tastes. It is a nice addition to content sites that otherwise would be a dead end link like NetFlix and Wikipedia.

I find myself clicking “shuffle” when I get to one of these pages and end up in a high pageview session that would otherwise not existed. What I like about this system is unlike Stumbleupon, Glue learns about my likes simply by visiting a page and keeps showing me similar content.
