Google announced news recently that will allow you to put AdSense ads on your parked domain. This is interesting news for a few reasons;

Currently the way to make money on a website that you own, without making an actual website of course, is to use a parked domain service from a larger provider. This has caused people some issue for people – for an example checkout www.marketing.com. As you can see this is a way for the domain owner to make a profit from people searching for then clicking on ads that come up.

Services typically charge a few dollars per month for identical service – which Google is hopefully trying to convert.

I for one have many domains that are either inactive or not yet being used that I am going to try this out on. For one thing, it will provide analytics on these unused domains.

    This is just one of many that is used in exactly the same way. The alternative is developing a business around each one. There are a few companies doing exactly that, but the effort vs. reward has to correlate.

    What a waste of a great domain! (marketing.com) – that is a shame.

    I’ve set up a dozen domains for a test using Google Adsense For Domains. After one week I've cleared 72 centers. So far I would say I was underwhelmed. I will keep a running update on clicks and revenue on http://pbarnhart.wordpress.com/testing-adsense-...

    Interesting news. I guess it was only a matter of time before Google got involved with this.

    I have found setup for each domain to be kind of a pain.

    I would love to get google analytics setup on my domains as well as adsense.

    Thanks for updating – I am interested in sharing my findings as well.

    I agree and want to see results on both sides of this. I hope we get folks posting both sides, and I hope google starts showing domain clicks.

    The downside to the parked domain Adsense is that except for a few who claim they've tracked exceptions it converts horribly for advertisers. Diluting the quality (i.e., converting) traffic that someone can buy from Google AdWords with parked domain traffic can make the difference between making money with your PPC campaigns and losing it. Unless Google has FINALLY changed the settings, this is traffic you can NOT get rid of without turning off the quality traffic too (which cuts the advertisers' sales).

    While income from ads on parked domains may be good for the domain owner it has been decidedly bad for the advertisers. If anyone has REAL PROOF that their parked domain traffic converts I would want to see it personally.

    I bought any domain name that sounded like my name or was related to my line of work so now I'm stuck with a lot of domains. I never wanted to park them but since you say Google will help us make some money, I think I'm gonna trust my domains with them.

  32. EricFriedman Says:

    Let me know if you see any results. I figure if you are going to pay ~$10 a
    year for each name, you might as well try to make some pennies back.
