Google recently launched the ability to see transit maps and travel directions via subway on Google Maps.

My friend Justin took this picture of how Google decided to celebrate this launch by putting real life sized map pins in Grand Central. For some reason I love this approach of putting computer based images in real world settings – similar to a You Are Here sign.

I love this feature because I find myself needing directions by train all the time. Obviously the clear leader for New Yorkers has been HopStop to date. I find myself using Google Maps more and more to send data to my phone so I do not lose an address and I am hoping this will be another added value for the service.
