Finding the right signal to noise ratio

Robert Scoble has a great post about why you have to fine-tune your signal to noise ratio.

I was asked recently by a friend about why I subscribe to so many feeds – this is a part of the reason. Ever since I switched to Google reader I have been having an easier time sorting through the data.

I like the noise. Why? Because I can see patterns before anyone else. I saw the Chinese earthquake happening 45 minutes before Google News reported it. Why? Because I was watching the noise, not the news.

He likes the noise, and so do I.
