Socket Advertising appears to be the “buzz” in some airports around the world. Chase appears to have taken one of the first opportunities of such a feature and for good reason. Business travels are becoming more savvy and are constantly looking to plug in at airports and other travel terminals around the globe. I think this is an innovative idea that will catch on.

The downside that many people see with such advertising is usually “where does it stop? won’t they just cover EVERYTHING eventually?”

My answer is simply, No. Advertisers would never cover “everything” because there is so incentive in it for them. This is a tailored ad that is trying to reach a very specific target – a traveler with a device that needs to be plugged in at the airport. As this demographic grows from simply laptops to DVD players, gaming devices, cell phones, and any other gadget that needs power – you are immediately putting yourself in front of a tech savvy and resourceful individual.

In a world where attention is sparse and relevancy is king – I think this is a solid execution of a company showing us how to “advertise different”
