fiber optics

Disney may run into trouble with their recent streaming video play coming May 2006.

For some reason I feel like the dark fiber surplus from the late 90′s is going to play an important role in all this. Now google’s play for buying dark fiber across the US doesnt seem so strange. Although seen as a cost cutting measure for Google to own its infrastructure, this ownership could prove to be the answer these networks are looking for when they need more bandwidth.

All these new services and features:
online video
voice chat
video conferencing
picture storage\video storage
etc..

are all going to need massive infrastructure.

The fight is now on to see who can provide the pipeline and hardware to support the coming wave of consumer bandwidth needs.
